<p>The unit was established as the 433rd Troop Carrier Wing at Cleveland MAP, OH in June 1949, with the C-46 and a mix of trainers. The wing saw active service in October 1950 at Greenville AFB, SC (later Donaldson AFB) and Rhein Main AB, Germany with the C-119 until July 1952, when it was returned to Reserve duty and inactivated. The 433rd was reformed at Brooks AFB, TX in May 1955 with C-46s, converting to C-119s in 1957, and then flew the C-124C from 1963 to 1972. The wing moved to Kelly AFB in November 1960 and was redesignated the 433rd TAW in July 1967 before becoming the 433rd MAW in July 1969. C-130Bs were assigned in June 1971 when the unit became the 433rd TAW. The wing converted to the C-5A in mid-1985 when it again became a Military Airlift Wing. The wing was mobilized for Desert Shield/Desert Storm operations late 1990/early 1991.
